Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky delivered a stark message on Sunday, asserting that without military assistance from the US Congress, Kyiv stands to lose its ongoing conflict with Russia. Zelensky’s statement comes amid Republican resistance in Congress, which has blocked substantial military aid to Ukraine for several months.
Speaking during a video conference organized by Kyiv’s fundraising platform United24, Zelensky emphasized the critical need for assistance. He warned that without Congressional support, Ukraine’s ability to withstand Russia’s invasion would be severely compromised, ultimately resulting in defeat. “It is necessary to specifically tell Congress that if Congress does not help Ukraine, Ukraine will lose the war,” Zelensky asserted.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Zelensky underscored that without vital aid, Ukraine would find it challenging to survive the conflict. He further cautioned that the ramifications of Ukraine’s defeat would extend beyond its borders, potentially leading to further aggression against neighboring states.
Meanwhile, the conflict’s toll continues to mount, with reports emerging of civilian casualties in various regions of Ukraine. In the southern Zaporizhzhia region, a Russian strike on the town of Gulyaipole claimed the lives of three individuals, including two men and a woman. The attack targeted a private residence, reducing it to rubble.
Further north, in the city of Kupiansk, located in the northeastern Kharkiv region, another civilian lost her life in a separate incident. Ukrainian authorities reported that the woman was killed when her apartment, situated in a high-rise building, was struck during the ongoing hostilities.
In response to these attacks, Ukrainian forces have also launched counteroffensives. Russia reported a casualty on its side, with a young woman losing her life in a Ukrainian drone strike near the Belgorod border region. The incident occurred in the village of Shagarovka, resulting in the tragic death of the young woman and injuries to several members of her family.
