ISWAP claims responsibility over killings of Igbo men

The assassination of two businessmen in Kano State has been attributed to the Boko Haram offshoot supported by the Islamic State, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jam’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihd.

On Saturday night in Sabongari, Kano, near Azubros Plaza, off France Road, gunmen assassinated the duo.

Ifeanyi Elechukwu, age 41, the attacker’s intended victim, and Chibuille Emmanuel, age 33, who was shot in the leg but later passed away in a private facility in the state capital, are the two fatalities.

According to reports, Elechukwu who happens to be a battery dealer was gunned down in his store by one of the shooters on the pretext to be a customer.While his friend was being chased and shot at close-range.

ISWAP in a statement taking responsibility said the attack was carried out by “soldiers of the caliphate”.

Elechukwu was identified by the terrorist group as a spy for the Nigerian Army.

Just a few days prior, ISWAP claimed that its members attacked police checkpoints in the states of Ondo and Edo.
