The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is sharpening its claws, with Chairman Ola Olukoyede pledging an all-encompassing fight against corruption.
In a speech delivered at an anti-corruption concert, Olukoyede emphasized a “broad-based, holistic” approach. He declared, “We will not spare anyone,” underscoring the agency’s unwavering commitment to pursuing both internet fraudsters and large-scale corruption.
“Mega thieves” will not be afforded any sanctuary, Olukoyede stressed. He pointed to the recent arraignment of two former governors as a testament to the EFCC’s evenhandedness. “Our focus is on every form of economic and financial crimes,” he reiterated.
Olukoyede specifically addressed the youth, urging them to shun the allure of internet scams. He highlighted the long-term consequences, including career limitations and social stigma attached to criminal convictions. “Your future is more important than any immediate gains,” he cautioned.
The EFCC Chairman implored young Nigerians to embrace hard work and integrity as the true pathways to success. He emphasized collective action, stating, “Don’t leave the fight to EFCC alone. All of us must come together and agree that corruption is evil.”
Olukoyede sent a clear message: “Nobody is too big to be investigated.” He vowed to hold accountable those who disregard the rules, regardless of stature.
This renewed commitment by the EFCC comes amidst ongoing efforts to combat corruption at all levels. In February, Olukoyede called on local governments to implement robust anti-corruption measures for improved governance.
