A Russian drone attack on Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, left at least six people dead and 10 injured on Saturday. The pre-dawn strike targeted the northern Shevchenkivskyi district, according to national emergency services and Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov.
Terekhov, in a Telegram post, stated the attack involved Iranian-made drones that struck at least nine high-rise buildings, three dormitories, and a petrol station. This claim has not yet been independently verified.
Earlier reports from the region’s governor, Oleg Synegubov, indicated two fatalities in Shevchenkivskyi. Police later confirmed these deaths and added eight individuals were hospitalized suffering from “blast injuries and shrapnel wounds.” The injured include two women aged 25 and 52, alongside six men between the ages of 23 and 76.
Fortunately, a separate attack on Mala Danylivka, a village on Kharkiv’s northwestern outskirts, resulted in no casualties, according to police. Images released by police depict several fires ignited in civilian areas, including near a high-rise apartment building.
The attack caused damage to various structures, including residential buildings and a petrol station.
This incident coincides with reports from Ukraine’s air force regarding sightings of multiple Russian drone groups across the country.
