In a major crackdown on crime, the Plateau State Police Command apprehended a fake soldier, a gunrunner, and 42 other suspects for various offenses.
Commissioner of Police Hassan Yabanet paraded the suspects at the Command headquarters in Jos on Friday. The alleged crimes included kidnapping, defilement of a minor, homicide, armed robbery, cultism, and gun running.
One of the noteworthy arrests involved Lucky Okoh, a man who impersonated a military captain to defraud a civilian. According to Yabanet, Okoh approached Shedrack Sabo on February 16th, 2024, and presented a fake military ID card. He then convinced Sabo to pay N110,000 for a nonexistent job in the military. SWAT operatives apprehended Okoh on March 4th, 2024, and recovered a fake military ID, along with recruitment forms for both the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) from his residence.
Other Notable Arrests
- A 24-year-old man, John Sati Choji, was arrested for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl on February 11th, 2024.
- Saddam Abdulmumuni, who escaped from the Jos prison break in 2021, was apprehended by the DPO Bokkos acting on a tip-off on April 3rd, 2024.
- Mohammed Awal, a suspected cultist, was arrested by SWAT operatives on April 3rd for allegedly stabbing a woman and stealing her phone.
Commissioner Praises Public Cooperation
Commissioner Yabanet assured the public that all suspects would face prosecution after investigations are complete. He also expressed his gratitude to the public for their cooperation and urged them to continue providing timely and accurate information to help the police combat crime in the state.
