Clement Ikolo, the king (Ovie) of Ewu Kingdom, has surrendered to police following his inclusion on a wanted list by the Nigerian military.
This action follows the deadly clash on March 14th in Okuama, where soldiers were killed by local youths. The dispute reportedly stemmed from an ongoing land feud between Okuama and a neighboring community.
King Ikolo, known as Urhukpe 1, had previously denied involvement in the violence through a video statement. He claimed innocence and emphasized his religious beliefs.
However, on Thursday evening, he presented himself to the Delta State Police Commissioner, Olufemi Abaniwonda. Authorities confirmed his surrender and stated he was transferred to military custody on Friday.
Military May Offer Bounty
The Nigerian military is considering offering a reward for information leading to the capture of those suspected in the attack.
Eight Individuals Wanted
King Ikolo is not alone. Seven others, including Prof. Ekpekpo Arthur and Andaowei Dennis Bakriri, remain wanted for their alleged roles in the soldiers’ deaths.
Soldiers Laid to Rest
The funeral for the slain soldiers took place on Wednesday at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja.
