Bloodbath in Awka: Rival Cult Clashes Leave Trail of Death

In a shocking turn of events, suspected members of rival cult groups clashed violently in multiple locations across Awka, the state capital of Anambra, on Sunday, leaving at least six people dead and sending shivers down residents’ spines.

The mayhem unfolded in a series of attacks that targeted Okpuno area, the vicinity of Eke Awka market, and Obinagu. While details regarding the precise motive remain shrouded in mystery, sources familiar with the events suggest the clashes were likely a brutal display of dominance between the warring factions.

Panic erupted amidst the cacophony of gunfire as unsuspecting residents, on their way to social gatherings and picnics, found themselves caught in the crossfire. One resident recounted the horrific scene: “People were simply going about their day when these armed men stormed the area around noon, unleashing a torrent of bullets. Innocent victims were gunned down mercilessly.”

The violence didn’t remain confined to a single location. It rapidly escalated, engulfing other parts of the city, with additional casualties reported. Tragically, one of the victims was identified as Nwofor, an employee of the Anambra State Judiciary, who was on his way to an event when he was struck down.

Disturbing visuals circulating on social media paint a grim picture of the aftermath. Graphic footage depicts bodies sprawled lifelessly near Eke Awka, with one victim, seemingly still clinging to life, lying beside his motorcycle in a pool of blood. Horrified bystanders are seen frantically fleeing the scene, desperately seeking refuge from the deadly hail of bullets.

These latest killings underscore the persistent threat posed by cult activity in Awka. Despite recent arrests by the police in the wake of prior cult-related violence, these criminal organizations continue to wreak havoc on the city’s peace.

Efforts to reach Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, for comment proved unsuccessful at the time of this report. However, the lack of official confirmation does little to diminish the palpable fear and outrage gripping the residents of Awka. They demand swift action from the authorities to dismantle these murderous gangs and restore a sense of security to their shattered city.
