The Delta State government has affirmed its unwavering commitment to advancing public health initiatives and preventative care measures. Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, the State Commissioner for Health, emphasized this dedication in a message addressed to the people of Delta State in honor of the 2024 World Health Day. He underscored the government’s recognition of health as a fundamental human right and pledged to ensure equitable access to quality healthcare services for all citizens, devoid of discrimination.
Dr. Onojaeme further highlighted the government’s proactive approach to healthcare, particularly through the implementation of the One Health strategy alongside other impactful interventions. To address the shortage of healthcare personnel in government hospitals, attributed partly to brain drain, the state has initiated the recruitment and deployment of additional doctors and nurses across its 66 secondary health facilities. Moreover, efforts are underway to finalize the recruitment of various other healthcare professionals.
In addition to bolstering human resources, the government has prioritized the procurement and distribution of essential hospital equipment to both secondary and primary healthcare facilities. Furthermore, initiatives aimed at enhancing the skills and capacity of healthcare workers statewide have been implemented to ensure optimal delivery of healthcare services.
Through these multifaceted measures, the Delta State government is steadfastly working to enhance the overall healthcare landscape and promote the well-being of its populace.
