Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has distanced himself from theatrics on the sideline, emphasizing his desire to build a “genuine relationship” with the club’s supporters.
Speaking ahead of their Sunday clash with Sheffield United, Pochettino acknowledged a strained dynamic with the fanbase. This comes amidst Chelsea’s struggles on the pitch, which were momentarily eased by a dramatic 4-3 comeback victory over Manchester United on Thursday.
The win, secured by a late deflected goal from Cole Palmer, sparked jubilant celebrations at Stamford Bridge. However, Pochettino is looking beyond short-term displays of affection.
“For the first time, I started to feel a connection with the fans,” Pochettino admitted. “This project is different to the last 20 years.”
He continued: “I always said that I wanted to build a genuine relationship, not kiss the badge or do stupid things on the touchline to please the fans.”
Pochettino’s comments suggest a long-term approach to winning over the Chelsea faithful, prioritizing authenticity over performative gestures.
