Governor Ododo Declares Support as 13 People Die in Kogi Bus Fire

A horrific accident on Sunday night near Obajana Market, Kogi State, claimed the lives of 13 passengers and left two others injured. The collision, involving a commercial bus and a heavy-duty cement truck, resulted in a fiery inferno that devastated the vehicles.

Governor Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State expressed his deep condolences to the families of the deceased in a statement released on Tuesday. He pledged the state government’s unwavering support during this time of immense grief.

“I am deeply disturbed by this tragic accident that resulted in the loss of precious lives and property damage,” Governor Ododo said. “My sincere sympathies go out to the families who have lost loved ones in this terrible incident. We will stand by them and offer whatever assistance we can during this incredibly difficult time.”

Details of the accident remain under investigation by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). According to Kogi FRSC Sector Commander, Samuel Oyedeji, the accident occurred around 7:30 pm on Sunday. The cause of the collision is yet to be determined.

The Governor commended the swift response by emergency services who managed the aftermath of the accident. He further emphasized the importance of safety measures to prevent such tragedies.

“I want to commend the Federal Road Safety Corps and other agencies for their prompt response,” Governor Ododo stated. “However, I urge all Nigerians to prioritize safety by avoiding night travel whenever possible. Additionally, it’s crucial for transportation companies within the state to maintain accurate passenger manifests at bus terminals. This will enable easier identification in the event of emergencies like this.”
