A fire incident unfolded on Monday at 48 Breadfruit Street, Apongbon, Lagos Island, reportedly triggered by the “careless handling of a generator.” The blaze originated from the second floor of a three-storey building housing various hair wigs, commencing at 12:24 pm.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service swiftly responded to the situation, mobilizing multiple fire crews stationed at strategic points including Ebute Elefun, Sari Iganmu, Dolphin, and Alausa, alongside assistance from the Federal Fire Service.
Despite challenges posed by the terrain and heightened concerns among traders, the fire was successfully extinguished, preventing its spread to adjacent property and salvaging what remained of the affected structure.
There were no reported casualties. Margaret Adeseye, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed these details in a statement, emphasizing the attributed cause of the fire to the mishandling of a generator.
This incident follows a similar occurrence reported in March, where fire engulfed four buildings at Dosunmu Market in the Idumota area of Lagos State, resulting in the collapse of one of the structures in the area.
