Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is reported be backing Labor Party (LP) presidential hopeful Peter Obi for the ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The Cable reports that, the former military head of states and democratic President is said to have asked Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike to back Obi’s presidential candidacy.
Obasanjo is reported to have made the request during his meeting with Governor of Rivers state in London on Thursday.
A source with knowledge of the meeting said “Obasanjo wants a southerner to be president but does not think Bola Tinubu is the best option,”
“The former president has also asked Wike and his supporters to back Obi.” he added.
This comes after Wike has been reportedly been in a meeting with the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu to consider the possibility of Governor Rivers working for the ruling party in the February 2023 election.
