Major British airline, British Airways has blocked travel agents in Nigeria from selling their tickets as foreign airlines struggle to repatriate more than $464 million in ticket sales to their home countries.
This comes after the Central Bank of Nigeria announced on Friday the release of $265 million out of a total of 464 million naira trapped in foreign carriers.
Figure analysis shows that $230 million was issued as a special forex intervention, while another $35 million was issued through retail SMIS auctions.
In a notice sent by BA to travel agents in Nigeria on Friday said ticket distribution companies will not be able to make new bookings or process existing bookings made in Nigeria.
British Airways did not specify the reason for making the decision nor indicate the deadline for stopping ticket sales of Nigerian travel agents.
However, BA said it was committed to the Nigerian market and would not stop flights to the country.
