Unidentified gunmen unleashed terror on Agojeju Odo, a community in Kogi State’s Omala Local Government Area, on Thursday. The ruthless attack left 19 residents dead and several houses in flames.
Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, confirmed the incident on Friday. He revealed that the gunmen, whose identities remain unknown, stormed the community on Thursday evening. According to the Divisional Police Office, the attack resulted in 19 fatalities and a number of injuries.
Responding to the violence, Commissioner of Police CP Bethrand Onuoha deployed reinforcements to the ravaged community. He vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Local sources report that Agojeju Odo bore the brunt of the attack. Residents from nearby communities, including Ajokpachi Odo and Bagaji, have reportedly fled their homes in fear.
The violence has overwhelmed the local police force, prompting residents to plead for assistance from Governor Usman Ododo and security agencies.
