When it comes to the conductivity of water, pure water (distilled water) is actually a very poor conductor of electricity. This is because pure water has very few ions, which are responsible for carrying electrical charges. However, in reality, pure water rarely exists. Most water contains dissolved minerals, salts, and impurities, all of which increase its ability to conduct electricity.
The best conductor of electricity in water is typically saltwater. When salt (sodium chloride) dissolves in water, it dissociates into sodium and chloride ions, which are excellent carriers of electrical current. The higher the concentration of salts or minerals in the water, the better it will conduct electricity. For instance, seawater, which is rich in salts, is an extremely efficient conductor.
In general, the more impurities (like salts, minerals, and other dissolved substances) present in the water, the better it conducts electricity. This is why tap water or seawater are much better conductors compared to distilled or deionized water.
