Which Land Animal Has the Biggest Eyes?
When it comes to land animals, the largest eyes relative to body size belong to the oxpecker bird (which is a type of bird living on land and is not traditionally thought of as an animal in the usual sense), and certain species of the bushbaby. However, if we’re talking about absolute eye size in terms of sheer diameter, the giraffe holds the record among land mammals.
1. The Giraffe:
The giraffe, a large herbivorous mammal native to sub-Saharan Africa, has the largest eyes of any land animal.
- Eye Diameter: The giraffe’s eye can be as large as 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) in diameter, which is quite large compared to most land mammals.

The bushbaby is a small nocturnal primate native to sub-Saharan Africa. While not the largest eyes in absolute size, they have some of the largest eyes relative to their body size.
- Eye Size: Bushbabies’ eyes are disproportionately large compared to their small bodies, giving them a very wide-eyed and alert appearance.
