The temperatures in Earth’s mantle typically range from about 500°C (932°F) at the boundary with the crust to around 4,000°C (7,232°F) near the core-mantle boundary. The mantle is divided into different layers:
- Upper Mantle: Temperatures range from around 500°C near the crust to about 1,500°C to 2,000°C deeper in the upper mantle.
- Transition Zone: This region, located between 410 to 660 km deep, has temperatures between 1,500°C and 2,500°C.
- Lower Mantle: The temperatures here range from 2,500°C to 4,000°C as you approach the core-mantle boundary, which is about 2,900 km deep.
These temperatures vary depending on depth and location, with areas closer to the core being much hotter.
