Journey to the West is a classic Chinese novel written in the 16th century during the Ming Dynasty by Wu Cheng’en. It is an adventure tale mixed with mythology, religion, and folklore, following the journey of Tang Sanzang, a Buddhist monk, and his disciples to India to retrieve sacred scriptures.
The novel’s most famous character is Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, a powerful and mischievous being with supernatural abilities. He is accompanied by Zhu Bajie (Pigsy) and Sha Wujing (Sandy), who help overcome demons, spirits, and other obstacles along the way.
The story is an allegory for enlightenment, blending Daoist, Buddhist, and Confucian teachings while showcasing themes of loyalty, perseverance, and redemption.
