Surface Charge Density Formula

The surface charge density (σ\sigma) is defined as the amount of electric charge per unit area on a surface. The formula for surface charge density is:

                                                                    σ=AQ

Where:

  • σ\sigma is the surface charge density (measured in coulombs per square meter, C/m²),
  • QQ is the total charge (measured in coulombs, C),
  • AA is the area of the surface (measured in square meters, m²).

This formula applies to a uniformly distributed charge over a surface.
