People’s Democratic Party presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and the party’s national leader are set to welcome Senator representing Kano Central Ibrahim Shekarau and his political allies back to the party in Kano on Monday (today).
Shekarau had in 2019 abandoned the opposition party to be elected into the senate on the platform of the ruling party, APC.
After misunderstanding with Abdullahi Ganduje, the governor of Kano state, he defected to the New Nigeria People’s Party. After falling out of favour with former governor of Kano and 2023 Presidential flag bearer, Rabiu Kwankwaso he had decided to resettle with the PDP as a result of some of his loyalists not getting tickets to contest for positions in the forthcoming elections.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, PDP State chairman, Shehu Sagagi said Shekarau had agreed to return to the party.
“I am delighted to tell you that Shekarau, being the highest political office holder as provided by the constitution, has accepted and we have welcomed him back to our dear party, the PDP.” He said.
“All arrangements are in top gear in preparation to receive Atiku Abubakar who will be in Kano today (Sunday), hopefully to receive Ibrahim Shekarau. We have accepted to follow him and we shall succeed, God willing.”
