Pandas are generally quiet animals, but they do make a variety of sounds to communicate, depending on the situation. They can bleat, which sounds similar to a goat, especially when they’re seeking attention or communicating with others. Cubs often squeal or cry when they want their mother’s care. Pandas can also bark—a short, sharp sound—when startled or feeling threatened. Additionally, they may growl, huff, or even emit a chomp-like noise during aggressive interactions. Interestingly, pandas sometimes produce a soft humming or cooing noise when they’re relaxed or bonding. Their vocalizations are surprisingly diverse for such a peaceful-seeming creature!
