Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, commended the resilience and sacrifices of troops deployed under the 1 Brigade during a visit to their Area of Responsibility in Gusau, Zamfara State, on Saturday.
The visit comes as the military intensifies efforts against terrorism and insurgency in the North West region.
Lt. Gen. Lagbaja lauded the Brigade’s performance in “Operation Desert Sanity II,” currently underway in Zamfara and neighboring states. He was briefed by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, on the troops’ activities and successes in the operation.
In a morale-boosting move, the COAS pledged additional support for the Brigade. This will include “Combat enablers” and other crucial operational resources to enhance their effectiveness in securing the region.
Lt. Gen. Lagbaja further extended his appreciation to the Emir of Gusau, HRH Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Bello Sarkin Katsinan Gusau, and the people of Gusau for their unwavering support towards the troops and the Nigerian Army. He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the military and the citizenry in overcoming the insurgency threat.
The COAS’s visit and assurances are a welcome sign for the residents of Zamfara and the surrounding states battling the ongoing insurgency. With increased support and cooperation, the Nigerian Army hopes to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.
