Supplies you’ll need:
- Clean hands or sterile gloves
- A mirror (preferably magnifying)
- A clean surface (e.g., a towel or tissue)
- Optional: saline solution or disinfectant
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Clean Your Hands: Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water or use hand sanitizer to ensure you’re not introducing any bacteria into your piercing.
- Clean the Area Around the Piercing: Use a saline solution or a gentle antiseptic to clean the area around your piercing. This reduces the risk of infection during the process.
- Find the Back of the Nose Ring: The flat-back nose ring consists of a small, flat disc that sits inside your nose, and a stem that goes through the piercing. The back may have either a threaded or a push-fit ball or disc.
- Stabilize the Front of the Piercing: Hold the flat front part of the ring (the side that faces outward) with one hand to stabilize it.
- Unscrew or Remove the Back:
- If it’s a threaded ring: Use your fingers to gently unscrew the flat-back part by turning it counterclockwise. Do not force it if it feels stuck.
- If it’s a push-fit style: Simply pull the back part of the jewelry out of your nose. Be careful not to tug too hard or too fast, as it could cause irritation.
- Pull Out the Nose Ring: Once the back piece is removed, gently slide the rest of the nose ring out through the piercing hole.
- Clean the Piercing Again: Once the nose ring is removed, clean the area again with saline solution or antiseptic.
Tips:
- If you encounter resistance or feel any discomfort, stop immediately. It might be a good idea to consult with a professional piercer.
- If your nose ring is stuck, don’t try to force it out, as this can cause damage to the piercing. A piercer can assist you with difficult removals.
- You can apply some lubrication (like a little petroleum jelly or saline solution) around the jewelry if it’s difficult to remove.
If you’re unsure or feel uncomfortable doing it yourself, don’t hesitate to visit your piercing professional.
