Making your Instagram account private is a great way to control who can see your posts and follow you. Here’s how to do it:
- Open Instagram: Launch the Instagram app on your phone or go to the Instagram website on your computer.
- Go to Your Profile: Tap or click on your profile icon in the bottom-right corner (on mobile) or top-right corner (on desktop).
- Access Settings:
- On mobile: Tap the three horizontal lines (menu) in the top-right corner, then select Settings at the bottom.
- On desktop: Click the gear icon next to your profile name, then select Settings.
- Privacy Settings:
- On mobile: In the Settings menu, tap Privacy, then toggle the switch next to Private Account to the “on” position. This will make your account private.
- On desktop: In the Privacy settings, check the box next to Private Account to make it private.
Once your account is private, only people you approve as followers will be able to see your posts, stories, and other content. If someone who isn’t following you tries to view your profile, they’ll only see your username and profile picture. They’ll need to send you a follow request, which you can accept or deny.
Just remember, existing followers will still have access to your content even after you switch to private, but new followers will need approval!
