- A pint is a unit of volume used in both the U.S. and the UK, but the most common measurement we’re discussing here is the U.S. pint, which is equivalent to 16 fluid ounces (oz).
- A shot of liquor in most places in the U.S. is typically defined as 1.5 fluid ounces. This is the standard amount served in bars or restaurants.
Setting Up the Calculation
To find out how many shots of liquor fit into a pint, we use the simple formula:
Number of shots= Volume of one shot Total volume of the pint
Plugging in the Numbers
Since a pint is 16 fluid ounces and a shot is typically 1.5 fluid ounces, we can plug these values into the formula:
Number of shots=1.5oz per shot16oz
Number of shots=10.67shots
Interpretation
- The result, 10.67 shots, tells us that there are approximately 10 full shots in a pint, with a small fraction of the 11th shot remaining.
- This means that if you poured 1.5 oz for each shot, you’d get 10 shots of liquor from the pint, with a little bit left over (about 0.67 of a shot, or approximately 1 ounce).
Other Considerations
- For a 1 oz shot, you would get: 16 oz 1 oz per shot = 16 shots 1oz per shot 16oz =16shots
- For a 2 oz shot, you would get: 16 oz 2 oz per shot = 8 shots 2oz per shot 16oz =8shots
However, in standard circumstances (1.5 oz shots), you’ll have about 10.67 shots per pint.
