India is a linguistically diverse country with 22 officially recognized languages under the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. These languages include Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Urdu, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, and others. Hindi, in the Devanagari script, is the official language of the central government, while English serves as an associate official language for administrative and legal purposes.
India also recognizes regional official languages in its states, where each state can declare its own official language(s) based on local linguistic demographics. Apart from these, India has over 1,600 dialects and languages spoken across various regions, reflecting its rich cultural diversity.
