How many Continents were there in 1980?

In 1980, there were the same seven continents as we recognize today:

  1. Africa
  2. Antarctica
  3. Asia
  4. Australia (sometimes referred to as Oceania when including the Pacific islands)
  5. Europe
  6. North America
  7. South America

The classification of continents has remained consistent in modern geography, and no significant changes in the number of continents occurred in 1980 or since then.
