How do I get rid of gnats? I’ve tried everything!

Gnats can be incredibly persistent, especially when you’ve already tried multiple solutions without success. If you find yourself frustrated with these tiny pests, don’t give up! Here are a few alternative strategies to help you get rid of gnats for good.

1. Identify the Source

First, ensure you’re tackling the root of the problem. Gnats are often attracted to overripe fruits, decaying organic matter, or moist soil in houseplants. Take a close look around your home to locate any potential breeding grounds. Throw away any rotting food, clean out trash cans, and examine your plants for damp soil that could be attracting gnats.

2. DIY Traps

While store-bought traps may not always work, homemade traps can be surprisingly effective. Mix a small amount of apple cider vinegar with a few drops of dish soap in a bowl. The scent will lure the gnats, and the soap breaks the surface tension, trapping them. You can also use a wine glass or jar with a piece of paper rolled into a funnel as a trap.

3. Use Sticky Traps

Yellow sticky traps can be placed near infested areas. These traps attract gnats with their bright color, and once they land, they’ll get stuck. They’re a great non-toxic way to catch adult gnats.

4. Insecticidal Soap or Neem Oil

If gnats are nesting in your plants, try using insecticidal soap or neem oil. These are safe for most indoor plants but deadly to gnats and larvae.
