Lions are not built for long-distance running. They can sprint at speeds of up to 35-40 miles per hour (56-64 km/h) for short bursts, typically around 100 to 200 meters. This sprinting capability is usually used during a hunt or when chasing prey. However, they quickly tire out after such a burst and are not capable of sustaining high speeds for extended periods.
For longer distances, lions prefer to move at a steady pace or rest until they need to spring into action.
