The Ondo State, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has taken a firm stance, asserting that he will not authorize payment for the 273 lawyers appointed as aides by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Olukayode Ajulo.
This decision comes amidst the Attorney-General’s justification of the appointments, emphasizing their significance in bolstering the provision of top-notch, impartial, and ethical legal services to the state, while also safeguarding the rights of its citizens. Ajulo explained that the appointed aides, categorized as Honorary Advisers and Technical Advisers, presented a diverse array of ideas which led to their approval.
In his statement, Ajulo expressed confidence in the invaluable guidance these aides would offer, aligning with the overarching goal of elevating the Office of the Attorney-General of Ondo State to the apex of public law offices in Nigeria.
However, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Aiyedatiwa, Ebenezer Adeniyan, countered these assertions, firmly stating that the 273 appointed aides would not receive remuneration from the state treasury. Adeniyan emphasized that these appointments lacked the official endorsement of Governor Aiyedatiwa.
