Djokovic Becomes Oldest Masters Semi-Finalist at Miami Open
Novak Djokovic continued his dominance at the Miami Open, securing a 6-3, 7-6 (7/4) victory over Sebastian Korda to reach the semi-finals. At 37, he became the oldest player to achieve this feat in a Masters 1000 event.
Djokovic made a strong start, breaking Korda early to claim the first set. The American put up a fight in the second, forcing a tie-break, but Djokovic’s experience and powerful serving sealed the match.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion credited his serve for the win, landing 11 aces and winning 84% of first-serve points.
“I was serving very well, probably my best in a long time. It made life easier on the court, especially in the second set when Korda found his rhythm,” Djokovic said.
The Serbian, eyeing his seventh Miami Open title and first since 2016, will face Grigor Dimitrov in the semi-finals. A victory in Miami would mark Djokovic’s 100th career singles title.
“I’m playing my best tennis in a while. Tournaments like this keep me motivated to push for more,” he added.
Teen Sensation Mensik Shocks Fils
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Czech star Jakub Mensik reached his first Masters semi-final with a 7-6 (7/5), 6-1 win over Arthur Fils.
Fils, who upset top seed Alexander Zverev in the previous round, struggled to match Mensik’s powerful serve. After surviving a tight first-set tie-break, Mensik dominated the second set, sealing victory in 75 minutes.
“It feels incredible. This is my biggest result yet, but the job’s not done,” said Mensik, ranked 54th in the world.
He will now face American third seed Taylor Fritz, who edged past Matteo Berrettini in a thrilling 7-5, 6-7 (7/9), 7-5 battle.
Berrettini saved six match points to force a deciding set, but Fritz dug deep to break at 6-5 and secure the win.
“I had to work extra hard to win the third set after missing match points. But I reset and found a way,” said Fritz.
With Djokovic chasing history and young stars like Mensik making waves, the Miami Open semi-finals promise plenty of excitement!
