Flour Weight to Volume Conversion
The weight of flour in grams per cup can vary depending on how it is measured. In cooking, the most common method is the “scoop and level” technique where flour is spooned into a measuring cup and leveled off. When measured this way, the following approximate conversions are used:
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour = 125 grams
So, to find out how many cups are in 100 grams of all-purpose flour, you can use the following simple equation:
Cups= Grams per cup Grams Cups = 100 125 = 0.8 cups Cups= 125 100 =0.8 cups
Result:
100 grams of all-purpose flour is approximately 0.8 cups or 3/4 cup.
Why is there a difference?
Different types of flour have slightly different densities:
- All-purpose flour weighs about 125 grams per cup.
- Whole wheat flour weighs about 120 grams per cup.
- Cake flour weighs about 110 grams per cup.
- Self-raising flour is similar to all-purpose but often includes added baking powder, which may change its weight slightly.
